EveryRiver is creating a permanent, community-built atlas and guide that helps people understand rivers, enjoy them more and care for them more deeply.
Our approach
An Atlas and Guide for public benefit.
EveryRiver Atlas Limited is the not-for-profit organisation behind EveryRiver. It will be funded by donations. Our information will always be free.
Information created by EveryRiver will be open data and will follow FAIR principles: findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. Information included from third parties remains subject to its original source terms.
EveryRiver includes information from Wikipedia, Wiktionary and iNaturalist, connecting it to river places and making its sources visible.

Our public-benefit commitments.
The company is established for purposes that are exclusively not for profit and for the public benefit:
- To advance public understanding of rivers, canals, lakes, wetlands, aquifers, estuaries and related environments—covering scientific, cultural, historical and social aspects—by collecting, curating and communicating knowledge and data through storytelling, interpretation, publications (including digital), exhibitions, performances, broadcasts and other educational activities.
- To increase responsible use and enjoyment and informed stewardship of those water environments by sharing knowledge, disseminating useful research and creating openly licensed information resources and datasets that help people see, understand and value these places.
- To build community participation by enabling volunteering and collaborative projects that gather, verify and share knowledge (including contributions to open platforms such as encyclopaedias and public datasets), and by offering training that supports those aims.
- To collect, commission and exhibit creative works that interpret and celebrate these environments where this advances the purposes above.
- To pursue such other purposes as are exclusively charitable according to the law of England and Wales and are connected with the preceding objects.
People

There is a small team planting the seed, but it is the community that will nurture it into the world’s greatest river atlas and guide.

EveryRiver respects your privacy and only collects the information needed to run the project and keep in touch with interested supporters. We do not use visitor analytics.
What we collect and why
If you sign up for updates, we collect your email address so we can send occasional news about development, launch and ways to get involved. We do not use your email for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for marketing.
Consent and unsubscribing
We process your email address on the basis of the consent you give when signing up. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time, after which your details are deleted or anonymised.
Data processing
Emails are sent using MailerLite, which acts as a data processor on our behalf and processes the information only to provide EveryRiver’s email service.
Your rights
You can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or withdraw your consent at any time.
